89% of New Wellness Coaching Practices Slated to
Go Under by 2013
According to Dunn and Bradstreet, the most recognised independent business research team in the world, over 89% of all new Independent Health practices and other small businesses are scheduled to be forced out of business by 2013.
This especially threatens Personal Trainers, Gym Owners and Alternative Health Care Practitioners.
The reason, according to research, is the overwhelming majority of these businesses lack the knowledge and skill required to attract a steady flow of paying clients.
“Most Independent Health Care Practices like Personal Trainers and Alternative Health Care Practitioners are great at getting results for their clients – but none of them are taught how to actually attract paying a clients in the first place.
So despite their skill and their ability to help others, they end up closing their businesses because nobody showed them how to get clients,” says Leela Cosgrove, a business expert who works heavily in the wellness area.
But It Gets Worse
As the global economy continues its downward spiral, Australians are cutting back on spending. Fewer people are willing to spend money on Personal Training, Preventative Health Care and other wellness related treatments that aren’t considered to be absolutely necessary.
According to Cosgrove,
“While we survived the GFC relatively unscathed, the lack of international bounce-back and ongoing issues in Europe and the USA mean fewer people are willing to spend any money on health related matters unless it is an absolute emergency.”
But the international economy isn’t the only thing hurting Independent Health Care Practises like Personal Trainers and Alternative Health Care Practitioners.
Trusted Advertising
Methods Have Stopped Working
“The few health practitioners who do advertise are seeing a small fraction of the results they used to,” says Leela Cosgrove.
“Most of them used traditional methods such as Phone Book ads, newspaper ads and flyers to get customers … but those methods rarely work anymore.”
And according to practices across the country, she’s right.
“My practice is down to half of what it used to be and I’ve tried everything from phone book ads to PR and the newspaper,” said one North Sydney Gym Owner who asked not to be named.
But despite these growing problems,
Some Gym Owners, Personal Trainers and Alternative Health Practitioners are Having Their Best Year Ever
Leela Cosgrove says,
“There are a few ways that really work well to attract a steady flow of clients to any Gym or Practice. The good news is that it’s not expensive or difficult to do it. In fact, some trainers have told me they now have long waiting lists of people who want their services.”
